everything i need for drywall finishing?
room completely drywalled and first coat mudded. it does have a corner at the very top where to sides meet idk what i need for that just tape and mud? supply list of everything to finish the job? i got this so far, mudd, mud knife, tape, sander, drywall knife, utility knife, what else would be good idea to have.
The best idea is to have a friend in the business that loves you dearly or owes you a favor. Barring that, get a good book or dvd. Just about anyone can do drywall if you have some patience and an eye for detail. Tools are like underwear, what works for one person may not for someone else. Pick up the tool, see how it feels in your hand. Is it balanced? Does it feel "right"? Can you maneuver it comforatbly? ASK A PRO TO SHOW YOU HIS/HER TECHNIQUE! Then try, try, try and try to duplicate it or adapt it to yourself. Take your time. Do not use quick setting compounds until you have some ability. To tape: apply thin layer of mud over seam or on both sides of an inside corner. Be sure to have even coverage of mud, NO bare spots. Apply tape and wipe down cleanly. Here's what I use: 5" flexible knife for applying mud for taping and for coating inside corners. The extra width allows me to apply 3"-4" of mud over tape and then get a clean "feathered" edge without too many strokes. I wipe down my flat taped seams with an 8" broadknife. 10" broadknife for coating over DRY taped surfaces (except inside corners, see above) and for butt joints and corner beads. Butt joints require a 2 to 3 blade width application to truly hide the seam. 12" broadknife for finish or "skim" coating these same surfaces. Make sure mud is completely dry between coats. Sand when done using 120-150 grit paper or screen and be sure to wear breathing protection!. You may have to do light sanding between coats until you get the hang of it. If you get any blistering when you coat over the tape, let it dry then cut out blister and fill with mud. Blisters are caused by bare spots under tape. Take your time and enjoy the finished product.
